I could get into the no cars thing. Goodness that would be nice. Just out of curiousity in a Tessera how is electricity delivered? Above ground or below? One of my complaints with living in a big city is that the sky is divided up by all the criss crossing electrical, cable, telephone wires, a visual pollution that takes a small toll.
Currently I assume everything is below ground. They’d have the opportunity to build all of their infrastructure as optimally as possible, so I’d think that makes the most sense. And there’s be a real goal towards making everything as beautiful as possible. Combine both nature and art to make something industrial beautiful. That’s a premise @Indy Johar talks about at length in terms of sustainability and beauty bringing both literal and perceived value to a city. If you haven’t checked out Indy’s writing, Jesse, you’d probably get a real kick out of it. He’s got a much more eloquent way of talking about these subjects. Good for finding the vocabulary to articulate the nuance of these ideas.
This is my favorite piece so far. It echoes Nagarjuna. A transcendence of concerns about material wealth at all in favor of an expanded identity for all. I do think the political and 'spiritual' must eventually come together for humanity to resolve its major challenges.
It’s frustrating sometimes, because the answer to so many of our problems is very clear, but we’d have to first overcome our primal self-interest. That part is virtually hard-wired. If only there was an emergent paradigm that might be used to pull us up out of our old ways…
Haha, yes, if only. One person, one breath at a time. The selflessness is something that might take a long time. But AI might make us less immediately ‘selfish’ if the material needs of everyone’s immediate family are met. This might turn down the difficulty level for being selfless.
