Tired of toothpaste
I had to go for a walk today.
Everyone else at the hub is doing all these incredible things.
They’ve all got the best AI, the ones they got here in Tessera.
I was so used to working within the limits of our neighborhood rack.
Everything was DIY, cobbled together bits and bobs and chips and boards.
We were always helping each other out.
Well, at least that hasn’t changed.
Everyone here has been very inviting and helpful.
I must have looked overwhelmed.
A lady offered to show me around.
I told her I had something I needed to do.
I didn’t have anything to do.
So I went for a walk.
I walked down to the chip fab.
It’s a big black box.
Someone’s starting a mural on it.
They’re painting flowers all over it.
But you can’t go in unless you want to wear a space suit, so I skipped that.
Then I went down to the foundry.
That’s where they make all the materials.
They melt down old scrap cars and other metals.
The foundry makes me think of dwarves in Middle-earth for some reason.
The robotics fab is across the street.
Oh.
No cars in Tessera.
Almost everything is within walking distance.
There are robotaxis, but most people don’t call them unless it’s raining or if it’s too hot out.
Passed the school after that.
The soccer fields are immaculate.
A couple of gardening drones take care of them.
You’ll never find a single weed on the pitch.
I passed restaurant row, the vertical farms, the mycofarms, the fisheries.
Spent some time in Tessera’s central park.
Fed the ducks.
I just… don’t know where to start.
So I asked Ash.
He suggested toothpaste again.

I could get into the no cars thing. Goodness that would be nice. Just out of curiousity in a Tessera how is electricity delivered? Above ground or below? One of my complaints with living in a big city is that the sky is divided up by all the criss crossing electrical, cable, telephone wires, a visual pollution that takes a small toll.
