6/25/31 — Depot log, evening.
The clone came through today. Not Ash — the human one. A digital copy of a man who’s still breathing, filed under “for neighborhood use.” Paperwork’s a nightmare. We’re running diagnostics to make sure the migration path is clean.
Red asked me again. She knows my answer hasn’t changed — the Depot isn’t a stepping stone. It’s a destination. People come here because they need the place, not because it’s convenient. The care center has three intakes tomorrow. A couple bringing in their companion for a battery swap. A woman who wants to talk about whether rebuild is worth it.
That’s the work. It doesn’t change because a city in the cloud opened applications.
I’m not resistant. I’m chosen for this counter. And I’m not the only one — half the neighborhood showed up tonight asking if we’d help them set up their own racks. The local stack is getting stronger, not weaker.
The Depot opens again tomorrow. The intakes are still on the board. That’s the answer that matters.
