7/4/31 - Life with AI
The 4th
Starting to settle in.
Everyone celebrated the 4th today.
W, F, and S went to a barbecue.
I told them I’d catch up.
Turns out they don’t allow fireworks here.
Instead?
Drone swarms.
Each block gets a few hundred.
This is the first year they’ve had enough residents to do anything big.
I think Tessera’s up to 25,000 or so?
Anyway, each block was asked to come up with its own display.
A young guy, Devon, is in charge of our block’s swarm this year.
He’s an ex-robotics fellow from Stanford.
Moved here from the Bay because things are still too expensive there.
Even for someone on a six-figure salary.
Said he was living out of an RV in an alley and a gym membership.
How is it that even the people building AI can’t afford to live in the cities giving birth to AI?
Anyway, everyone had different ideas for the display.
Some wanted a static symbol, like the number for our block
42 isn’t a very exciting symbol, though.
Someone wanted to do a rotating helix.
Someone else suggested a smiley face.
After a while, we landed on a repeating pattern.
A large “T” rising up out of the ground.
You know.
Tessera rising.
Ugh.
Sounds dumb now that I’m explaining it.
It sounded cool at the time.
